By John Aubin This is our weekly column on players that have weekly favorable matchups and number of games. These are also players who are under 50% ownership in standard fantasy leagues. We base these pickups on a nine-category league with the following categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, three-pointers made, turnovers, free-throw percentage and field-goal percentage.
In Week 4 we have just five teams with four games while 20 teams have three games. There are four teams with just two games and players from those teams should be avoided if you are doing waiver wire adds for the week.
Week 4: Nov 6 – Nov. 12
Four Games: BOS, PHX, OKC, IND, BKN, MIA
Three Games: NYK, DEN, ORL, WAS, UTA, MIL, DAL, SAC, HOU, TOR, LAL, CLE, ATL, DET, GSW, SAS, NOR, LAC, PHI, CHI
Two Games: POR, MEM, CHA, MIN
Waiver Wire Adds:
Domantas Sabonis F-C Indiana Pacers. Sabonis has taken advantage of the extra playing time with Myles Turner out with a concussion. Turner could return at any time which could cut into the playing time of Sabonis. But it looks like the second-year big man has earned a role in the Pacer’s rotation and could become a sixth man candidate. Fantasy owners needing points and rebounds should take a chance with Sabonis. Year to date he is averaging an amazing 11 rebounds a game. That number will be reduced with once Turner is back but it will still be a high enough number to make a difference in 12 team fantasy leagues and deeper.
Mike James G Phoenix Suns. James has come out of nowhere to suddenly make an impact at point guard for the Suns. The 27-year-old out of Lamar has earned the starting role with Eric Bledsoe sitting out as the team tries to make a trade. It is hard to see James holding this role for the season especially if the Suns get a point guard back in a Bledsoe trade. But for now, he is worth owning as he is seeing plenty of minutes. Fantasy owners needing assists and steals should take a flyer on James and in Week 4 he should provide plenty of value.
Spencer Dinwiddie G Brooklyn Nets. The injury to Jeremy Lin has opened up minutes in the Nets backcourt and Dinwiddie is doing his best to take that playing time. Dinwiddie is playing some strong basketball and over his last three games is averaging over 6 assists a game. Those are numbers worth owning if there are fantasy owners needing point guard depth and help in the assist category. With four games in Week 4, the 24-year-old guard should be owned and could end up being a long-term add if he continues to play like he has been over the last week.
Bojan Bogdanovich F Indiana Pacers. Bogdanovich has been on fire the last week and seems to have solidified the starting job at small forward. Bogdanovich is an excellent source of threes and points but does not provide much else for fantasy owners. But with his increased role and playing time the 28-year-old is worth owning in most leagues and points and threes are always hard to come by on the waiver wire. And with four games in Week 4 its worth adding Bogdanovich.
Jerami Grant F Oklahoma City Thunder. Grant is someone to add in deeper fantasy leagues. The 23-year-old forward has carved out a role in the talented Thunder rotation this season. While he has increased his minutes he still does not offer much value for standard fantasy leagues. Fantasy owners in deeper leagues should look at Grant as he makes a big impact in blocks and if you are lacking in that category then Grant is worth a pickup. Especially with the Thunder playing four games in Week 4.
